ABOUT ME
Daniel Simmons is a talented teenager with a passion for music and acting. Whether he’s performing Hoffmeister’s Viola Concerto in D Major, or playing young Morgan in the 2016 feature film, “Nobody’s Perfect,” Daniel’s love for the arts shines through.
Daniel began studying music at the age of four when he was introduced to the piano. However, it wasn’t until he was eight and heard the rich, haunting melodies of the Viola that his musical journey truly began. Although he is not from a musical background, he has worked hard to establish himself as a serious and focused violist. Daniel currently studies music at the Precollege division of the Manhattan School of Music (MSM). He has been a member of his school orchestras for the past five years. In 2015, he joined both the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra – Nassau Strings Ensemble, and the Interschool Orchestras of New York (ISO). He will continue on the Concert Choir of ISO this school year. He spent the summer of 2016 honing his skills at music camps, including Camp MSM in New York and the Sphinx Performance Academy (SPA), an intense chamber music camp, in Chicago.
As an actor, Daniel is quite versatile. He has played a variety of roles in school performances, including Gilbert and Sullivan operas. His most challenging role so far came when he played the role of Morgan in the feature film, “Nobody’s Perfect”. Daniel enjoys acting, and he is a huge fan of musical theatre.
Daniel lives in New York where he attends a prestigious all-boys school. Besides participating in school orchestras and plays, Daniel is a great singer and dancer and he enjoys running. He has been part of his school chorus since fourth grade. He improved his dancing skills with the school’s Dance Crew for several years and one of the highlights for him was performing at the Alvin Ailey Dance studio in 6th grade. Daniel is also a terrific cross country and middle distance runner. He started running competitively at the age of six. Due to the demands on his time from all his other endeavors, he doesn’t compete as much as he used to outside of school. He hopes to be able to play several instruments and master multiple languages someday.
Daniel’s first love is his music and he aspires to play the Viola professionally someday. He sports a quiet demeanor, but his charm and eloquence when he performs set him apart from his peers.
